Impact of Regulatory, Worker Safety, and End-Product Considerations in the Selection of Polyamide-Epichlorohydrin Wet-Strength Resin Technology, 1995 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

Mary M. Emerson Hercules Incorporated The availability of highly efficient low epichlorohydrin(epi)-residual wet-strength resins has given Papermakers greater flexibility to meet the regulatory, worker safety, and end-product safety challenges facing them in the 90’s. Low epi-residual products have been selected to get needed reductions in VOC emissions, address worker safety concerns regarding the handling of suspected carcinogens, or as a means to minimize the organochlorine (OX) content of the final paper product. The specific issues being addressed by low epi-residual wet-strength technology and its acceptance from a global perspective will be addressed in this paper.
