My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Edwin Buehler Consolidated Papers, Inc. Adolf Guggemos Voith Sulzer Papiermaschinen GmbH Gap forming technology has reached a high level of quality. The blade-roll and roll-blade formers have set a standard. However, as the need for stability, dewatering capacity, ease of operation and even higher performance levels becomes more important, the disadvantages of both concepts become more apparent. A new gapformer has been developed which utilizes a suction forming roll to initiate sheet formation and a blade unit to finalize it. The unique feature of this former is the pneumatic loading of the forming bars of the blade unit so that the drainage pressure can be individually adjusted. This paper summarizes the start-up and the first year of pro-duction experience with this type of former on a LWC paper machine.
