Filion Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada A laboratory test has been developed for screening additives for controlling the deposition of white pitch (caused primarily by coating binders) in coated paper mills. The effects on white pitch deposition of a number of operating parameters in the test have been explored so that the user can knowledgeably choose appropriate conditions for an application. An initial trial of the laboratory test suggests that it gives results which correlate well with mill experience in screening additives for white pitch control.
