Fiber and Forming-Related Mechanisms Affecting Formation, 1996 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
Fiber dimensions determine the formation potential of a pulp. They also affect the flocculation tendency of the pulp. This paper presents a model to predict formation based on fiber dimensions, using a crowding number. The effect of hydrodynamical processes on formation in fourdrinier / top dewatering unit forming is discussed. The importance of various control factors is evaluated, as well as the efficiency of various forming units to produce good formation.
