My TAPPI Story: Naomi Gehling
Patented technology (1) teaching the importance of enzyme and polymer for enhancing the freeness of recycled fiber was evaluated at the Jefferson Smurfit Naucalpan and Los Reyes Recycle Paper Mills, Mexico. The case study was done on liner and medium grades with different dosage levels and varied retention times in both batch and continuous systems. Several application points were also evaluated to maximize the enzyme performance. Up to 40% increase in freeness was obtained and the machine speed increased by 13-l 6%. Other advantages of the developed technology are discussed.
