Understanding the Benefits of a Suction Couch Double Doctor, 1997 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
The basis of this paper is to provide general information on couch roll operation from the water removal perspective. This paper presents equations that have been derived to estimate the water flow into the couch roll holes. With this information, the paper-maker may be able to determine the benefits of a Double Doctor on their couch roll prior to actual installation. Additionally, an equation that describes the behavior of the water exiting the couch roll holes is provided. The use of a Double Doctor assembly on a suction couch roll has produced measured consistency increases of approximately 2% as well as many other benefits. The increase in consistency provides freedom to vary other paper making variables such as furnish properties, speed or dryer section steam usage.
