My TAPPI Story: Naomi Gehling
This paper discusses the classical synchronous average technique using the hardware to synchronize vibrations signals in the field. It is very useful to select the true vibration source from the background noise through a long record of measurements.
The alternative method we have tested so far uses software to generate the synchronous average to filter out the noise and enhance the signal due to that source. Both records have been examined from the simulation data and those obtained from field measurements in paper machine wet presses.
The final results show good agreement with the classical technique with the advantage of unnecessary expensive instrumentation.
