Application of Gas Heated Paper Dryers on Linerboard, 1997 Papermakers Conference Proceedings
The gas heated paper dryer (GHPD) is a cylinder dryer, heated internally by means of a gas tired infra-red burner, capable of achieving shell temperatures and drying rates far in excess of those possible with steam cylinders. The GHPD makes it possible to increase the drying capacity of a paper machine without many of the complications associated with a conventional dryer extension. This paper deals with the results from the application of GHPDs on two linerboard machines, one at Willamette Industries Albany Paper Mill in Albany, Oregon, USA and the other at Visy Paper in Smithfield , NSW, Australia.
