When Does the Second Generation Shoe Drop? On-Line Process Chemistry Optimization Maximizes Quality and Reduces Cost, 1998 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

A first generation wet end control technology has been developed. A consistency sensor measures white water consistency, and the feed rate of an anionic trash scavenger is adjusted to hold it steady. The second generation system entails the use of on-line sensors which enable the headbox zeta potential to be maintained at the precise value which maximizes drainage. This enables process chemistry stabilization at the optimum level by maximizing quality and productivity at minimum chemical cost.
