Floatlip Former, 1999 Papermakers Conference Proceedings

The forming concept of the vat former has been well known for over one hundred years. The sheet forming process of vat machines, especially the pick up of the fibers, depends very much on the furnish parameters. Sheet quality can only be influenced in a small range. Due to this adjustability limit, there are uneven profiles both in cross direction and in machine direction. Given all the disadvantages, which make customers dissatisfied with the conventional design, Voith Sulzer has developed the cylinder mould headbox. The forerunner was the shortformer. Nowadays, the cylinder mould headbox equipped with the centrifugal distributor and the proven dilution water system produces optimum sheet quality with low profile variation coefficients.
