There is considerable literature on the subject of steam showers and pressing of heated webs. This review was undertaken to determine if the literature contained information sufficient to serve as guide for optimum use of steam showers. The review includes a partial examination of pressing theory. A total of 170 sources were examined, dating from 1954 to the present. In general, much of the theoretical work is not supported fully by experimentation; the number of well-designed laboratory experiments is limited; and the mill test conditions are not completely documented.
