Optimal design of steam and condensate systems depends on process knowledge of the sheet and the papermaking process. Process knowledge must focus on end product goals, or the system will not maximize runnability of the machine, productivity, or ultimately, sheet quality. Drying process changes along the length of the machine, and characteristics of machine and sheet related variables, must be understood and accounted for in the steam system design. TechDry is a new concept in steam and condensate system design. The fully automated system, based upon a deep understanding of papermaking, allows for on-line sheet adjustments. Maximized sheet quality, increased productivity and reduced energy consumption result with this advanced, yet simplified approach.
