ISO 9000: A Management Perspective, 1990 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
More than 10,000 British companies have been assessed and accredited to BS 5750 (1987). The equivalent of IS0 9000. Within Europe some 40 pulp and paper companies have been assessed, or are on the way to accreditation. IS0 9000 is a standard which demands an outside audit of the quality systems in a company. The audit is carried out to establish that the company operates quality assurance systems which guarantee the conformance of the product to its specifications. For most paper companies this demands two years’ hard work and a complete change of management philosophy. The author, with experience of both TQM and IS0 9000, sets out the work load involved.
