G-P IC Carrongrove Paperboard Mill & ISO.9002, 1990 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings

Carrongrove Paperboard Mill produces 35,000 tonnes/annum of one and two side coated paperboard. The Mill is unique in being the only company to date with the facility to double blade coat both sides of a paperboard on machine.

Carrongrove’s products are positioned firmly at the top quality end of the paperboard sector.

The paper describes one route used to achieve registration to ISO.9002. The planning stage of the project was considered crucial with particular care taken in selecting champions and in structuring the Quality Manual and Procedures to suit the company.

Generation and control of documentation is described in some detail. While frequency and organization of Auditing are important it was noted that Audit styles changed as the system matured. A Mill view of the external assessment procedure is given together with advice in preparing for the actual day of assessment. Finally, benefits accruing from the system are described.
