Differences and Similarities of ISO 9000 and Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, 1992 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
Interest in quality and quality systems has accelerated in the last few years. Two systems, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award criteria and the IS0 series, are examined as to similarities and differences. Background materials are presented. This examination is done from the perspective of an IS0 9001 certified company that was a finalist for the 1990 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award.
The two quality systems examined have major differences. IS0 standards are concerned with minimum quality requirements and are narrow in scope; whereas, the Baldrige criteria compares the entire organization’s path on the journey of continuous improvement with other world class companies. However, it must be noted that the two systems are not in conflict.
