Excelsior Award, 1992 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
The first New York State Excelsior Awards were given out in May of 1992 to four organizations in recognition of excellence in Total Quality Management. The Excelsior Award is unique in that it recognizes the need for excellence in all three sectors of the economy (Business, Government and Education) with the aim to heighten competitiveness and ensure economic viability within communities across the State. A common criteria of quality excellence derived from the Malcolm Baldridge National Quality Award is applied to all three sectors.
The criteria used forthe selection process represents a proven road map for long term success. It is really a management model for Total Quality. The benefits to the applicants come from the learning that occurs during the application process. Researching of the application criteria as well as measuring oneself against this criteria is one of the most insightful activities an organization can undertake. Applicants learn an incredible amount about their operations.
