Process Control & Quality Control: Integral Parts of ISO 9000, 1992 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
As IS0 9000 certification becomes a mandate in the pulp and paper industry, an understanding of the standard’s requirements for Process Control and Quality Control becomes necessary. This paper examines IS0 9001 requirements and offers an interpretation of the standard in regards to its applicability for the pulp and paper industry.
Many challenges arise when trying to conform to IS0 standards, but none so more than attempting to integrate quality and process control into a single quality system. Careful attention must be paid allocation of resources and coordination of plans and activities.
Once a mill achieves IS0 certification the improvement process continues. IS0 does not guarantee a high-quality product, provides the foundation for on-going work toward continuous product improvement. In addition to ISO, quality elements from the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award can be added to help complete the integrated quality system. It merely forms a foundation for continued work on improving the quality of all mill activities.
