How Do Your Measurements Measure Up?, 1992 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings

Measurement variation was determined and reduced using paper reference product. Adequacy of measurement units, stability, precision, bias, and capability of measurements were determined using multiple Shewhart control charts for each test procedure and comparing these charts from several locations. The methods used permitted determination of measurement variation confounded with a minimum of reference product variability. They proved to be appropriate for destructive testing as well as nondestructive testing. The credibility of the laboratories and the morale of testing personnel improved. Many assignable causes were found and eliminated, providing for continuous improvement of the measurement processes.
