Automation of the Quality Test Lab at Howe Sound Pulp and Paper, Ltd., 1992 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings

Howe Sound Pulp & Paper Ltd. is nearing completion of a major modernization/expansion project. As part of this project a new test lab was built for the evaluation of wet pulp, handsheet and newsprint samples. The decision to automate this lab was made to facilitate the collection, analysis and dissemination of quality data throughout the mill. This paper will present the steps taken by Howe Sound to select, install and rapidly come on line with a test lab automation system that meets the quality reporting requirements of the mill’s expansion program.
