PPS - Results, Do We Expect Too Much?, 1993 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
When a customer buys a new instrument he, of course, expects it to work properly and also to indicate clearly if something goes wrong with his paper and/or board grades. What is worse, however, is that he far too often expects his brand new instrument to give exactly the same result level as his old and worn unit that he just scrapped.
The PPS instrument, which is extremely sensitive to loose fibres and to debris on the sample surface as well as the condition of the backing and measuring head, is a good example of this.
Three cases, one from the USA, one from Europe and one from Scandinavia, are discussed in this paper. It is shown
that a deeper knowledge of the method and related problems is essential for the acceptance of the new instrument and its result level.
