Quality control of incoming wastepaper is very important to the smooth operation of a deinking plant. This paper examines the reasons behind specifications which are set for wastepaper and the impact that can be felt in the deink plant and the papermachines from poor wastepaper quality. The development of the Boise Cascade Vancouver mill’s wastepaper specifications is presented. Examples are given for the “office pack” wastepaper specifications for three different mills.
