Offset Printing and the Formation of Uncoated Fine Papers, 1996 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings

Domtar Innovation Centre

Commercial-scale printing trials were carried out on samples representing the typical range of uncoated offset papers in the North American market. Unprinted paper samples were evaluated by standard physical methods and printed samples were evaluated by subjective ranking as well as by microscopic examination. Formation of the base papers was found to have a strong influence on the uniformity of the offset prints. In addition, sheet bulk and surface cleanliness had significant effects on print quality.
