ISO 9000-An ELECTRONIC Information and Knowledge Management Approach to Compliance, 1997 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
In January 1994, the Technical Services Department of Applied Technologies, Champion International, was registered as complying to the IS0 9002 model for the installation of an internationally recognized quality management system. It soon became evident that the need to control the documentation generated and used within the system sometimes slowed down our efforts more than it improved our capabilities. Ever aware of the need for continuous improvement, an investigation into ways to control our documentation was launched. Our criteria were as follows: it had to be compatible with Lotus Notes, a Macintosh/DOS dual platform, and it had to meet our requirements for quality and cost. The result of our search was the System 9000. System 9000 is a quality tool which allows installation of, or conversion to, a totally electronic quality system that meets all of the requirements of the IS0 9000 Quality Standard. Our first audit, after installation of the system, took place in July 1996. We were found to have zero non-compliances to the requirements. This paper will deal with several of the thirty applications available in this electronic package that can be used to install and maintain a totally compatible IS0 9000 Quality Management System.
