My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
The proposed new stickies test method measures the tacky contaminants only. Selecting the correct sample size is based on the anticipated stickies concentration and desired confidence intervals. A minimum of 100 grams o.d. pulp is always recommended, which is first screened with a 0.10 or 0.15 mm slotted plate. The unique part of the new test method is a specially designed coated paper ,which is placed on top of a black filter paper containing the stickies. The “sandwich” is then exposed to temperatures and pressures under controlled conditions. When removing the paper the white coatings will attatch to the stickies and the created contrast allows measuring the stickies area with an image analysis system. The method can be easily applied throughout any recyle systems processing bleached or unbleached recovered paper.
