My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Coating flakes can cause white pitch and paper quality problems in light weight coated (LWC) mills. Traditional methods for counting flakes are reviewed. These traditional methods are compared to a new image analysis technique for counting and reporting size distributions of coating flakes. Trial results show that image analysis achieves a consistent, accurate, much faster way to count and determine size distributions for coating flakes in light weight coated paper.
