Permanent Papers, Brightness Reversion and Lignin-Containing Pulps: What Are the Real Issues and How Are They Being Addressed?, 1998 Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
This paper presents a market-based perspective, which will review the various opinions on the performance of lignin-containing papers, contrasted with present scientific understanding and market experience. The key questions and issues will be explored including, what is the basis for paper buyer and user perspectives, and for government and industry standards? How are these changing in the light of new pulp and papermaking technology, research and market experience? Is there a place for lignin-containing pulps in higher quality papers? This paper will show that because of a deep interest on the part of all those involved, their inter-community interactions and collaborative efforts, new research has resulted that is helping to resolve long-standing questions, refute assumptions and bring consensus among paper producers and users.
