My TAPPI Story: Rory Wolf
TAPPISAFE
C. Chirat, D. Lachenal, G. Mortha--ClO2 delignification during a D0 stage is substantially improved if the ClO2 charge is split and the oxidized material repeatedly removed by alkaline extraction and washing in a (DE)(DE) (DE)...type process. 20% saving in ClO2 consumption is easily obtained. The explanation would be that in a conventional D delignification stage, part of the ClO2 reacts again with already oxidized lignin moieties. Although ClO2 splitting represents a complication, practical implementation should be facilitated by the fact that some of the D treatments could be carried out in mixers or short retention tubes. The mode of addition of ClO2 and NaOH is such that the quantity of AOX present in the effluent is considerably reduced.
