H. Irish, J. Pacello, P. Mullaney--This paper reports on the development of a system that introduces a source of shear energy on the rheological properties of low to high consistency paper stock. The shear-induced reduction in apparent viscosity has the potential for providing substantial processing benefits with no degradation of pulp fiber integrity. The impact of rheological transformation on the pumping characteristics of heavy paper stock also is discussed.
