Wood-Induced Variations in TMP Quality - Their Origins and Control, 2000 Pulping / Process & Product Quality Conference Proceedings
J. R. Wood--Much of the variation in TMP quality originates from variations in the wood furnish feeding the refiners. These variations can be short term, longer than the 1-second residence time of chips in the refiner but shorter than can be reliably managed with most existing control systems; they can also be longer term, over hours, days, weeks, months and seasons. Some of these variations come from variations in chip size and moisture but most come from inherent variations in the properties of the wood itself. This paper prevents evidence to quantify the variations in wood and chip quality, where possible identify their causes, and estimate their effects on TPM quality. It suggests ways that have been used or might be used to control them.
