New Deinking Plant at Kaipola, Finland, 1990 Pulping Conference Proceedings
One of the newest deinking facilities is the United Paper Limited Mill at Kaipola, Finland. This 100,000 ton per year facility had its first production in December, 1989. The deinked pulp is used on a new 220,000 metric ton per year newsprint machine. Deinked news, magazine, and other papers classified as Finnish household waste are used. The deinking process consists of pulping, coarse cleaning and screening, flotation deinking, fine cleaning and screening, dispersion, second stage deinking, and storage. The deinking plant and paper machine are now running according to design. The deinked pulp quality is better than TMP when used for 40% of the newsprint furnish and no paper machine production losses are attributed to the deinked pulp.
