My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
A laboratory study to evaluate refinability and strength development with three different types of corrugating medium paper furnish (NSSC, Green Liquor, and Non-Sulphur) is presented. The work was done in response to the serious strength loss and poor sheet appearance problems reported in connection with the use of the OCC wastepaper containing dark-color medium. A complete refining/ handsheet study was made on the different medium papers, and the pulp and handsheet properties were also compared. Results of this study will assist wastepaper buyers in selecting a good OCC furnish for the particular needs of their finished products.
