State of the Art Deinking Practices, 1990 Pulping Conference Proceedings
Wastepaper has become the most important raw material for the paper and board industry in many individual states of the European Economic Community, including Denmark, The Netherlands, West Germany and the UK. This paper reviews wastepaper use in Europe, with special emphasis on the production of printing and writing papers. Some recent wastepaper processing lines are reviewed, to illustrate changes in technology and some changes are discussed in detail, according to the fibre furnish, either woodfree or wood containing. Several systems featuring acid loop cleaning or secondary flotation after dispersion have been installed, but there is no clear "one best approach" evident from recent European deinking installations. Common features include high consistency pulping and screening, dispersion and sophisticated process control systems.
