Alkaline Pulping IV - Dioxin: An Industry Overview, 1990 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Dioxin as a paper industry concern, is reviewed by paper manufacturers, oil suppliers, defoamer suppliers, environmentalists and research institute representatives. Since the discovery of dioxin in effluent and sludge four years ago, the paper industry has committed to addressing the concerns surrounding this issue. We now know more about the exposure risks, and the means to reduce dioxin levels. Over the last four years, an enormous amount of information on dioxin has been gathered as it relates to the bleached pulp production process. Great strides have been made in the reduction of dioxin levels in bleached pulp manufacturing, and solutions to the outstanding problems are under study. This roundtable provides an excellent opportunity to remain current on the issues of dioxin management.
