Analytical Method for Determining the Lowest Cost Fiber to the Pulp Mill, 1991 Pulping Conference Proceedings
This paper describes the use of a mathematical model that allows site-specific economic analysis of the variables that impact the cost of wood fiber delivered to the pulp mill. The variables considered include: harvesting methods and costs, transportation methods and costs, form of wood handled, location and method of debarking and chipping, chip receiving, storage and retrieval, screening, operating costs, and capital investment. The model can be used for a variety of studies, such as determining fiber cost for various forms of wood and methods of delivery, and predicting the impact of capital investments on the total cost of fiber delivered to the pulp mill. Example results of several studies are included.
