Neutral Sulphite Pulping of Wheat Straw, 1991 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Neutral sulphite pulping of wheat straw has been investigated in the laboratory at different chemical dosages and cooking conditions. It provides pulp of high yield which is easily bleachable.

Bleachable grades of pulp are obtained with sodium sulphite dosages between 10 to 15%. It is observed that a higher chemical charge is more selective towards delignification without affecting yield and strength properties.

A relationship has been developed between percent crude yield and COD released in spent liquor. This relationship is valid for a yield range of 50-90% and is also applicable to mill results.
