Steam Explosion Technology, 1991 Pulping Conference Proceedings
This paper serves as an introduction to Steam Explosion technology and the use of this process for the deinking of secondary fiber.
The objective is to show the roots of the Steam explosion process, to provide supporting documentation of the successful use of the process for deinking secondary fiber and to compare it to conventional deinking technology.
The technology has been proven in the laboratory and on a pilot scale. The results show that the Steam Explosion process is capable of processing fibers that are currently impossible or very costly to deink with conventional deinking technology. The Steam Explosion process eliminates the need for a hydropulper, flotation cell and dispersion unit of a conventional system.
A Steam Explosion process is an effective alternative to a conventional deinking process that can be installed in one-half the time at a considerable cost savings, process a lower grade of furnish and produce a quality pulp.
