Chlorine-Free Bleaching of ASAM Pulp and Sulfite Pulp in a Semi-Industrial Scale: Fiber Deformation During Ozone Bleaching, 1992 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Chlorine-free bleaching of ASAM pulp and acid sulfite pulp has been compared. Brightness and pulp properties are shown. The change in fibre appearance due to the ozone bleaching is pointed out for the acid sulfite pulp, especially the fiber shortening. This effect was not found for the ASAM pulp.

125 kg/h of sodium based acid sulfite pulp were bleached in a pilot plant with an O(ZE)P sequence. The same sequence was used for the ASAM pulp. A counter-current wash flow was maintained through the plant for both trials.
