Two-Stage, High Brightness Bleaching of Sulfite Pulp, 1992 Pulping Conference Proceedings

Totally chlorine-free bleaching of sulfite pulp is state of the art in Germany. A fundamental step in this development was the installation of EOP stages. To adjust alkaline conditions caustic soda is used. Under the viewpoint of reducing a biological effluent treatment plant’s load by integrating effluent into a chemical recovery system, magnesium oxide is worth being investigated more closely. The paper will show in detail the effects of swtiching from HaOH to MgO for kappa number, brightness, COD charge and cleanliness.
