Effect of Pretreatment on Ozone Bleaching at Medium Consistency Condition, 1993 Pulping Conference Proceedings

An experimental study has been conducted to investigate the effect

of pretreatment on ozone bleaching at medium consistency condition. Softwood kraft pulp with extended delignification was used in this work. Brownstock pulp ( kappa number is around 15 ) was pretreated by oxygen, nitrogen and enzyme. The ozone bleaching conditions were: pH = 2.5; Temperature = 25degrees Celcius. Ozone concentration of 4.6% (wt O3/wt 02) was continuously fed into mixing reactor throughout entire period of the kinetic study. The kappa number, brightness and CED viscosity were used to evaluate the effect of pretreatment on ozone bleaching. The results of the experiments showed that the pretreatment of brownstock pulp has significant effects on 15% medium consistency ozone bleaching.
