My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
The paper presents results from the ASAM pilot plant in Baienfurt. In two runs ASAM spruce pulps were produced and chlorine free bleached using the O-A-Z-P sequence. The first run was performed with a completely closed water cycle with consequent counter current filtrate flow. In the second run the water loop was opened to release the filtrate of the acidification stage.
The results of these different process options are compared with respect to the transition metal ion profile and the organic loading during the whole process, as well as the effect of the operation mode on pulp quality.
In the final part of this presentation water and energy consumptions are given for an ASAM mill as calculated for a commercial application.
