Maximizing TMP Strength by Controlling Chip Quality, 1993 Pulping Conference Proceedings
An increasingly competitive business environment in todays industry is leading paper mills to seek higher efficiencies from their wood handling processes. Our focus has turned to evaluating every factor of the process for improvements in quality and productivity. In the TMP process our goal is to maximize on pulp strengths to satisfy our customers. By controlling size distribution of the wood chips on a continuous basis, higher efficiencies and improved quality can be achieved.
A wood chip quality program was implemented to insure total employee involvement toward controlling and maintaining wood chip size distribution. Current in house computer technology (Quality Support System) encompasses recording chip quality data, for on line quality measurements, and advanced quality analysis and reporting.
Through the use of the Quality Support System we are able to identify the effects of equipment on chip degradation. All improvements in pulp strengths improve paper machine and press room operations.
