Development, Design, Construction, and Startup of the New OCC Plant of Weyerhaeuser Paper Company, Springfield, Oregon, 1994 Pulping Conference Proceedings
David T. Lewis, Brett King, Hans Gutmann
As a consequence of the rising cost of Northwest softwood fiber and of other economic and environmental incentives, Weyerhaeuser Company decided to install a state-of-the-art OCC processing facility at their unbleached kraft linerboard mill in Springfield, Oregon.
The new OCC plant was to produce 450 TPD of OCC fiber of the bet achievable quality from a mixture of Grade 11 OCC and mixed waste. The recovered fiber from the plant was to be of such quality to permit the substitution of up to 50% of virgin kraft fiber at the paper machines without any negative influences on the quality of the mill’s products. Reject materials were to be handled efficiently and discharged separated by destination to landfill and incineration.
