Packaging materials are generally required to meet rigorous standards, particularly those involving compressive and burst strength. However, current economic, technological, and environmental trends have increased the diversity of raw materials used in the brown board industry, compounding quality variation among products destined for use in packaging. Several processing factors, such as refining, wet pressing, and basis weight conditions impact upon the strength of paperboard properties.
