Kenaf is an annual plant which has been tried as a substitute for wood as a fiber raw material in the paper and paperboard industry. These early attempts have failed, however, due to the inability in the past to separate Kenaf bark fiber from the much lower coarseness core fiber, two vastly different fibers. With the development of fiber separation equipment there is renewed interest in the use of Kenaf fiber, each fiber fraction to its best paper making potential.
