My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
Christopher M. Vitori, Jim Winkler, George C. King
The use of forward centrifugal cleaners ahead of pressure screens with fine slots is required in abrasive stock preparation systems to protect the contour in the screen plate surface from wear. Historically, virtually all secondary fiber systems operating on OCC and mixed waste have included medium-density cleaners preceding the slotted screens. Fine forward cleaners have been proposed as an alternative to the medium-density cleaner. The two different types of cleaners operate at different consistencies while efficiently removing abrasive contaminants. When choosing centrifugal cleaners to protect screens, the effect of the consistencies on debris removal efficiency by the slotted pressure screens must be considered. A series of tests was conducted under pilot plant conditions to determine the effects of consistency on the pressure screen debris removal efficiency.
