Mill Scale TCF Bleaching of Hardwood Sulfite Pulp - Advantages and Drawbacks, 1994 Pulping Conference Proceedings
Geoffrey E. Seger, Edward F. Hetzel
Results from the conversion of Procter and Gamble’s Mehoopany sulfite mill from a single stage EOH to EOP is outlined. Target brightness values of 83% ISO are achieved. Advantages to the conversion are the reduction in bleached dirt count by 89% and the reduction in dirt and brightness variability by 80% and 50%, respectively. A much lower rate of scale buildup on the equipment is also noted. Mill testing has also identified pH’s above 11.5 achieve optimal cost reduction for the pulping, waste treatment, and papermaking operation.
