My TAPPI Story: McKenna Goulette
G. Homer, T. Govers
The past two years have witnessed rapid progress in the industrial application of ozone for the bleaching of pulp. Today, eleven (11) mills worldwide have decided to incorporate ozone in their bleaching sequences. This paper examines experience that is available from several of these full scale operations, as well as recent laboratory data concerning the efficiency of ozone kappa reduction, brightness levels and pulp properties. The results are sufficiently convincing to establish ozone-based ECF and TCF sequences as remarkably efficient solutions. The economic competitiveness of ozone based sequences is compared to traditional ECF sequences and to sequences developed on laboratory scale.
