Screening practice for brown stock kraft pulp has long remained unchanged. Operating at low pulp consistency has given low capacities and high operating costs. Using slotted screen baskets to improve the screening efficiency has bee expensive due to the many drawbacks of this type of basket.
Introduction of higher consistency screening and a new type of slotted basket have allowed for a reduced investment and operating cost. In addition, the complexity of the system is reduced by eliminating the need for double stage screening in the primary stage when using this type of slotted screen basket.
The configuration of the system is of vital importance to the final result. Using slotted baskets in all stages improves the screening efficiency and can also be used to increase the capacity of the system.
