Metals Management in a Closed Kraft Mill Bleach Plant, 1994 Pulping Conference Proceedings

J. R. Caron, J. Fleck

Champion International Corporation (CIC) has developed a process to recover filtrates from kraft pulp bleaching. This is the second paper in a series of papers describing the approach and application of the Bleach Filtrate Recycle (BFRTH) Process.

This recycle process utilizes a metals removal process (MRP) to remove non-process metals from acidic bleach filtrate, allowing full re-use of the treated acidic bleach filtrate [1]. Figure 1 illustrates how it integrates into a bleached kraft pulp mill. Development of an efficient, cost-effective and operable MRP has proven to be one of the most significant technical challenges in developing this new recycle process.
