Kraft Pulping with Black Liquor Pretreatment, 1994 Pulping Conference Proceedings

This presentation summarizes mill results obtained at Kymi Paper Mills, Kuusanniemi’s plant using Black Liquor Pretreatment in a continuous kraft pulping system. The system is equipped with a new impregnation vessel for concurrent as well as counter current impregnation. By using black liquor in the pretreatment and with a proper white liquor split a 10% tear strength improvement is achieved at a kappa level of 25. Some increase in burst index and a decreased beating energy is indicated as well. The ECF bleachability is saved.
